Understanding Prenatal Care

After I found out that I was pregnant, I decided to focus on finding an excellent prenatal care. I started looking for an OBGYN who could help me with the kind of care that I needed, but it was overwhelming at first. I was nervous that I would choose the wrong provider and that it would complicate my pregnancy, but I was able to find a great doctor who could help me along the way. He walked me through prenatal care requirements, and it was really fantastic to see the difference that it made in my life. This blog is here to help other people to understand prenatal care.

Tips To Ease Your Embarrassment And Anxiousness At The Gynecologist

Regina Cooper

Most people aren't exactly excited to go see the gynecologist. It's not like you look forward to spending an afternoon with your legs in stirrups. But feeling overly anxious or embarrassed about seeing the gynecologist isn't a good thing either. If you are feeling this way, here are a few steps you can take to help ease your worries and anxiety.

See a female gynecologist, if possible

There are plenty of amazing male gynecologists who are very professional and very knowledgeable about their work. However, if you are feeling really nervous about seeing the gynecologist, making an appointment with a female gynecologist may relieve some of those worries. If you are currently the patient of a male gynecologist, call their office and ask if there are any female doctors in the practice that you could see instead.

Learn about your genital anatomy

Knowing more about your own genitals and your own anatomy can make you feel more self-assured and empowered. And that may make you feel more comfortable as you see the gynecologist. You'll have a better understanding of what they are actually doing down there and why they are doing it. Look for books on female anatomy written by adults. Or, consider watching some videos explaining what happens during a gynecological exam.

Write your questions down ahead of time

When you're anxious, it is easy to forget what questions you wanted to ask. And worrying that you'll forget certain questions may make you even more anxious! There's an easy solution here: just write your questions down. You may even want to do it on an actual piece of paper, rather than on your phone. This way, you can just hand the paper to your gynecologist rather than asking the questions out loud, which can be less nerve-wracking.

Go in the morning

If you schedule your appointment in the afternoon, you will have all day to worry and work yourself up about it. So, schedule your appointment for the morning. This way, you won't have as long to stew in your emotions. For the time you are awake before the appointment, you can focus on getting dressed and getting out the door.

It's normal to be a bit embarrassed about seeing the gynecologist, but it is not good for the embarrassment to overcome you. Seeing a female doctor, learning about your anatomy, going first thing in the morning, and writing down your questions can really help. When you're ready to make an appointment, contact a local gynecologist.
